Welcome to The Hague!

The Jewish community in The Hague offers a vibrant array of activities and services for people of all ages and stages of life. Whether you're looking to connect with others, celebrate life events, or explore Jewish culture and traditions, there's something here for everyone.

Jewish Community
The Jewish community in The Hague is home to two welcoming synagogues: one located in Bezuidenhout (near Haagse Bos) and the other in Scheveningen (near Madurodam). Both synagogues provide an open and inclusive environment, offering services on Shabbat and Chagim, always followed by a festive kiddush. The shul in Bezuidenhout is also home to a beautiful Mikvah. Click here for more information.

Life Cycle
Mazal Tov! Life cycle events are special moments to celebrate within the Jewish community. Whether it’s a Brit Mila, baby naming, Bar or Bat Mitzvah, or Chuppah, each of these milestones can be joyously celebrated here. Please reach out for more information on how to mark these occasions with us.

Chagim (Jewish Holidays)
Jewish holidays are times for connection and celebration. In The Hague, you can participate in services for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, enjoy dancing on Simchat Torah, attend public Chanukah celebrations, partake in exciting Purim parties, experience a traditional Pesach Seder, and more. Stay tuned for upcoming announcements and events.

Chaj Center
The Chaj Center serves as the hub of Jewish life in the city, hosting many Jewish classes and events. It houses a Hebrew library, offers yoga sessions, and hosts a women’s choir. Additionally, Chaj aims to bridge the gap between the Jewish community and the general Hague population. The Chaj center social hall is also available for rent for your simcha or event. For more information, please visit the Chaj website.

Adult Education
A Talmud class is held every Wednesday evening in Bezuidenhout. Throughout the year, we also host various guest speakers and lectures on a wide range of topics. Additionally, Rabbi Katzman offers courses through the year from the Jewish Learning Institute.

Volunteering
There are many volunteering opportunities available in The Hague. These include helping at the Mr. L.E. Visserhuis - Jewish elderly home, preserving and cleaning one of the Jewish cemeteries, joining the security team or visiting seniors in town. Please reach out to find out more.

End of Life
The Jewish community provides comprehensive care for the deceased. The tahara process, funeral arrangements, and burial plots can be arranged through community membership. We can also help with the recital of Kaddish or the observation of a Yahrtzeit/Azkara. Please reach out for more information.

Membership
Contribute by becoming a member of the Jewish community (NIG). For over 300 years, the Jewish community has been a cornerstone of Jewish life in The Hague. The community board represents our interests to the local authorities. By becoming a member, you support the continuation and growth of Jewish life here. Click here for more information.

Currently, there are no kosher grocery stores in The Hague. However, Chabad Central Amsterdam has compiled a convenient list of kosher items available in most supermarkets throughout the Netherlands. You can find the list here. Additionally, kosher food products can be ordered online from https://kosher4u.eu.
